Frequently Asked Questions

Who makes this website?
This website was created and is maintained by a Head of Department in an East Yorkshire secondary school. It has taken over three years to reach its current state and is worked on in free time. It started as a simple retrieval practice tool for use in one school but has grown into something much bigger.

Are some parts of the website not finished?
Yes. Some areas are less polished than others. Over time, new activity types will be added, teacher tools will be refined, and additional features will be created. The site is always evolving.

Are some areas of content missing?
It takes a long time to add high-quality content. The main focus is on qualifications taught directly by the website developer (Edexcel GCSE Computer Science, BTEC Digital Information Technology, and Cambridge National Creative iMedia). Other qualifications, may receive less attention or have missing content. These may be added or updated in the future.

Is the website free?
Yes. It is free to use for both students and teachers. Anyone can sign up or log in using a Microsoft or Google account. Teachers can claim their school by filling in a form on the dashboard once logged in.

Will the website always remain free?
Currently, hosting costs are minimal, so the website remains free. In time, some features may need to become paid-for to keep the website live, or some areas may need to be ad-supported. The goal is to keep the core student experience free wherever possible.

How do teachers use Fetch Decode Explain?
Teachers can log in, claim their school, and then access tools to set activities, track student progress, and compare attainment across groups. Activities are self-marking, saving time in the classroom.

Do students need an account?
Yes. Students need to log in with a Microsoft or Google account. This allows their progress to be tracked, points earned, and activities saved.

Will I get an instant response to an email or message through the website?
Not always. The site is run alongside a full-time teaching role, so replies may not be instant or the same day. However, the aim is always to respond within 24 hours.
