Points, But Smarter: How Rewards Now Work on Fetch Decode Explain

We’ve refreshed how points are awarded to better recognise genuine effort, first-try focus, steady improvement, and tackling tricky content.

What’s changed

  • First attempts on assigned work now carry a performance-scaled bonus (do well on your first go, earn more).
  • Retries still earn points with diminishing returns to keep things fair.
  • Beat your personal best? You’ll get an improvement bonus.
  • Challenging questions award extra points when answered correctly.

Why we changed it

The old system sometimes gave completion bonuses even when effort was minimal. This update shifts rewards toward quality of work and real progress, not just ticking the box.

How points work (details only)

  • First-attempt bonus: Scales with your score on assigned work.
  • Retries: Second attempt = solid points; from the third onward = reduced points.
  • Improvement bonus: Awarded only when you set a new best for that activity.
  • Challenge bonus: Applied per correctly answered challenging question in quizzes.

Example
Do well on your first try → base points + first-attempt bonus.
Improve on a later attempt → base points + improvement bonus.
Nail a challenging question → challenge bonus on top.

Focus on the first attempt, keep practising to beat your best, and don’t shy away from the tough ones—they’re worth it.
