A client is the person or company that wants a media product made. Client requirements include the type of product, its ______, which may be selling more products, the target audience and the client ______, the values that guide a company. A brief also states the content, genre and theme, and the ______, such as the fonts and colours set in the client's brand guidelines. The ______ is how long the work must take, and a tight deadline or small budget can constrain planning.

Clients communicate their requirements through briefs. A ______ is when a client hires a company to make a specific product. A brief can be ______, giving official and detailed requirements, or informal, casual and less detailed, so the designer may need to ask questions. It can be given in a meeting or discussion, or be ______, where the client and producer agree changes. Most briefs are written, giving a clear record to check the product against, and designers highlight key words when planning.

Audiences are segmented so products can focus on particular people. Categories include ______, such as people aged 40 to 60, gender, such as men or women. ______ groups people by how much they earn, while occupation is their job and education their qualifications. ______ is the area where people live. Other categories include interests, such as gaming, and ______, such as being vegan. Segmentation lets adverts be targeted, so an expensive restaurant in an affluent area uses elegant advertising.
