A flowchart shows the steps of an algorithm using standard symbols and arrows. A rounded rectangle called a ______ marks the start and stop. Data entering or leaving the algorithm uses an ______ symbol, drawn as a parallelogram. A calculation such as total = total + price goes in a rectangle called a ______. A question with two labelled exits, Yes and No, sits in a diamond-shaped ______. A ______ symbol means run a separate flowchart here, which keeps a large flowchart small. A ______ joins two symbols and shows which step comes next.

Flowcharts can show all three constructs: sequence, selection and iteration. A ______ uses a decision to choose between two paths. A loop that repeats a fixed number of times is called ______. A condition-controlled loop repeats until a test becomes false. Putting a decision inside another decision, or inside a loop, is called ______.

To interpret a flowchart, follow it from Start with the given inputs. Note every output, count how many times a loop runs, and say what the algorithm does. A decision with an arrow back up becomes a ______ loop in Python, repeating while a test is true. A counter that goes up by one to a fixed end value becomes a for loop using ______. Correcting means fixing mistakes, such as a decision with one labelled exit. Completing means filling in empty boxes, and refining means improving it, for example by removing repeated boxes.
